YOU AND WHAT YOU CONSUME

Written by Chioma Kalu

“Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind and spirit. When one is free from physical disabilities and mental distractions, the gates of the soul open.” – B.K.S. Iyengar

Due to the fact that we have tight schedules we often find it difficult to eat properly made and nutritious food. We end up making it difficult for our digestive system as it attempts to extract nutrients from poorly chewed and nutritionally void food. This leads to having weak digestive enzymes. These depleted enzymes, coupled with the weakened stomach acids that come with age, result in a digestive system that cannot break foods down enough to access and utilize the vital nutrition inside. When the body system fail to absorb the needed nutrients it becomes more vulnerable to sickness and chronic disease. Supplements may offer some relief to this issue of nutrient deficiency, but our bodies are not designed to process nutrients delivered by non-food sources. While they may be useful to a certain extent, supplements are by no means a Substitution for proper nutrition because the human body is designed to acquire nutrients from whole, unprocessed foods.

A healthful diet typically includes nutrient-dense foods from all major food groups, including lean proteins, whole grains, healthful fats, and fruits and vegetables of many colors.

Eating an abundance of nutrient-extracted food can add years to your life not  just any years, but healthy, vibrant, disease-free years.
